Many women have diamond engagement rings. Unfortunately it is particularly common for a jeweler to sell a diamond to a client, paying little attention to the setting (mounting).

If a customer has a typical diamond budget, the jeweler may put 98% of the money into the stone and only the small fraction into the mounting - probably using low grade metals such as 14 karat gold .

The end result is a common looking ring that is not really special in any way. The mounting can easily reduce the beauty of a diamond of superb color and quality.

In order to be a really fine jeweler, one must be artistic as well.

A wax mold can be made of any diamond, thus creating a prong or bezel setting that fits the stone to perfection. A truly fine mounting will always be made of high karat gold or platinum and will have symmetry and style.

If the mounting is made correctly, the diamond will appear larger and brighter than it really is. Good design is essential in showing off the magnificence of any fine diamond and will add to the uniqueness of any ring.
